Weavers’ House Spa at The Swan at Lavenham Hotel is investing in future spa therapists by endorsing the Level 2 technical certificate in beauty therapy course at its local West Suffolk College, in Bury St Edmunds.
The endorsement, thought to be the first of its kind nationally, means the spa will work with the students to help assess, train and shape them into high quality spa therapists. Those showcasing passion, drive and attention to detail will be able to integrate their learning in an ‘industry’ environment at the spa.
As part of the course, students will have the opportunity to carry out treatments in a real-life environment. Usually this is done in the public facing college spa area, however some students will have the chance to perform treatments ‘in-spa’ to gather onsite experience.
Weavers’ Spa Director, Alex Hurt, says: “My aim is to cultivate premium therapists by moulding highly motivated, professionally engaged students, and then offering them employment. This should not only help to ease the recruitment crisis that we all are affected by, but additionally give students opportunities, mentoring and experiences that they wouldn’t normally get. This is a passion project of mine, and I hope to make it a must do for all colleges and spas nationwide!”
Alison Hurrell, Subject Leader in Beauty and Holistic Therapies at the college, says, “We are absolutely delighted to formalise our already positive working relationship with Weavers’ House Spa. . There is a national shortage of therapists, but by nurturing students with spa know-how we can help demonstrate where a career in beauty therapy can lead.”
In-spa enhancement workshops will also be available for those who would like to perfect and upgrade their basic skills to those expected by a high-quality spa. The Weavers’ team will work alongside the students to nurture and lead by example.
