Tristan Nesbitt has returned to the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh as General Manager, taking up the role 28 years to the day after beginning his hospitality career with the group as a management trainee in London.
The appointment marks a return to a property Nesbitt previously led between 2013 and 2020. He has also spent the past three decades working across Starwood Hotels and Marriott International, with roles spanning sales, marketing and hotel management.
Nesbitt began his career at The Park Tower in London before moving into sales and marketing, including a period as Director of Sales and Marketing at The Westin Palace in Madrid. He subsequently returned to The Park Tower as Hotel Manager before moving to Edinburgh in 2013.
Following his first tenure at the Sheraton Grand, Nesbitt took responsibility for a portfolio of 12 hotels across the UK, covering locations from Leeds to Aberdeen. He has spent the past 18 months managing a hotel in London.
He also has a long-standing role within the Scottish hospitality sector. Nesbitt chaired the Edinburgh Hotels Association for six years and has previously served as a director of Luxury Scotland. His wider experience includes more than two decades at board level within a family-owned spa business.
His return comes as the Sheraton Grand continues to invest in its spa and leisure facilities. One Spa has received £700,000 of investment over the past five months, including the introduction of a Reformer Pilates Studio, new Technogym equipment, a Rasul Mud Bothy and a poolside sauna. Further improvements are planned.
The appointment also comes at a period of change for Edinburgh's hospitality market, with the city's visitor levy now in place and further hotel developments adding to the existing accommodation offering.
Nesbitt said returning to the property felt like a natural move, with Edinburgh having been home to his family for more than a decade.
“I’m delighted to be back and look forward to working alongside the team to make sure every guest, delegate and event organiser who comes through our doors has an outstanding experience,” he said.
He also paid tribute to his predecessor Martijn Zengerink, who he said had built a strong foundation for the next stage of the hotel's development.
Nesbitt added that he was looking forward to working with the hotel team, its partners and the wider Edinburgh hospitality community as he takes on the role.
The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa is located close to Edinburgh Castle and includes One Spa alongside its accommodation, meeting and events facilities.
