Nikola Reiters is the Managing Director of the family owned Reiters Resort in southern Austria which offers two distinctly separate hotels: one for adults and one for families but both have a unique focus in wellness.
1. What trends do you see emerging in the spa industry within the next 2-3 years?
Nikola: I see a strong focus on personalization in treatments combined with a commitment to cultivating the most dedicated staff—a powerful combination that is both desirable and challenging to achieve. As guests seek more tailored experiences, offering individualized treatments and employing passionate, skilled professionals will set top spas apart. Additionally, integrating sustainable practices and using local resources will continue to grow as essential aspects of creating an authentic spa experience.
2. In my opinion, the future of the spa industry lies in...
Nikola: I believe it lies in combining traditional healing methods with modern scientific approaches to provide a holistic experience that nurtures body, mind, and soul. The human touch and a connection to nature are especially important, as guests seek a sense of grounding and emotional renewal. At our Supreme Hotel, we strive to offer this through our emphasis on nature and regional resources, creating an immersive, rejuvenating experience that deeply supports both physical and emotional well-being.
3. What challenges do you see ahead?
Nikola: Balancing the growing demand for personalized treatments with the need to maintain a highly skilled, motivated staff is an exciting yet significant challenge. Personalization elevates the spa experience, but it requires a deep commitment to quality and customization, along with a strong team. Recruiting and retaining passionate, dedicated professionals while keeping pace with evolving guest expectations will be key.
4. My favourite personal wellness routines include …...
Nikola: My wellness routine includes running and hiking in the beautiful areas around our resort, which allow me to connect with nature and clear my mind. Afterward, I love unwinding in a sauna—a practice that is thankfully accessible in many of Austria’s finest hotels, where superb spa facilities offer a chance to relax and restore, no matter where you are.
5. The best advice I can offer the next generation of wellness professionals is …
Nikola: I would say to stay open to new ideas but remain focused on a specific area of expertise. It’s impossible to do everything well, so it’s vital to specialize in the area that resonates most deeply with you. This focus enables you to build a unique skill set and offer authentic, meaningful service to your guests.
