1. What trends do you see emerging in the spa industry within the next 2-3 years?

Jennifer: We foresee several key trends shaping the wellness tourism industry as travellers increasingly seek meaningful, transformative experiences:

  • Evidence-Based Medical Wellness Programs: The demand for programs that integrate traditional healing methods with modern, science-backed treatments is growing, particularly for chronic and lifestyle-related conditions. Wellness resorts like The Farm at San Benito are leading by combining evidence-based holistic therapies with eco-sustainable practices and a commitment to social responsibility.
  • Regenerative Tourism: This emerging trend emphasizes environmental sustainability and community enrichment, allowing travellers to contribute to a destination’s well-being as part of their experience. Philippine resorts are at the forefront of regenerative tourism, with The Farm integrating sustainable practices, local community support, and the Filipino brand of hospitality to create deeply impactful travel experiences.
  • Medical Wellness Tourism: With significant advancements in medical tourism infrastructure, the Philippines is building a robust medical wellness sector that combines preventive health services, longevity, and healthy aging with luxury wellness experiences. The Farm at San Benito exemplifies this trend by offering integrative programs blending modern medicine and serene wellness environments, accessible to both domestic and international clients.
  • Halal Wellness Tourism: Catering to the growing demand for inclusive wellness options, the Philippines is expanding into Halal wellness tourism. The Farm is proud to be the nation’s first Halal-certified wellness destination, welcoming Muslim travellers with services aligned with cultural and religious practices, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and cultural sensitivity.

  • Wellness Weddings: A new focus on wellness weddings is emerging, with couples seeking health-conscious, meaningful ways to celebrate. The Farm at San Benito is a pioneer in this area, offering ceremonies surrounded by nature and enriched by wellness experiences, ensuring a rejuvenating celebration for the couple and their guests.
  • MICE with Wellness in Mind: The Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector is increasingly incorporating wellness as organizations recognize its impact on productivity and well-being. The Farm offers tailored wellness programs for MICE events, featuring health assessments, yoga, sound healing, culinary workshops, and more, ensuring participants leave energized and inspired.

  • Wellness Real Estate: The Farm is pioneering wellness real estate in the Philippines, offering residences where guests can immerse themselves in a wellness-focused lifestyle while accessing integrative medical and wellness services. This trend meets the demand for eco-conscious living spaces designed to promote well-being.

  • Science & Spirituality Convergence: A defining trend is the blend of evidence-based medical wellness and spiritual practices, addressing guests’ physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. At The Farm, our team of integrative doctors and spiritual healers works together to supply a holistic wellness experience that fosters both healing and personal growth.

  • Mood Food: Nutrition's role in emotional and mental well-being is gaining recognition. The Farm embraces this with plant-based menus that support mental clarity and emotional balance, in line with the “food as medicine” approach, which promotes mood-boosting, nutrient-dense ingredients.

  • Beyond Longevity: The focus is shifting from longevity alone to encompassing spiritual fulfilment. As people seek meaning in life, The Farm emphasizes spiritual well-being in its programs, positioning itself as a destination for both physical health and personal enlightenment.

  • Pet Wellness: With more people including pets in their wellness journeys, The Farm is exploring pet wellness offerings, such as stress-relieving reiki and acupuncture sessions for animals. This reflects the growing trend of holistic care extending to pets.

  • Purposeful & Meaningful Business: Today’s wellness consumers prioritize eco-sustainability and social responsibility. At The Farm, we are committed to regenerative tourism, ethical sourcing, and community initiatives. Through eco-friendly practices and a farm-to-table approach, we aim to create positive, lasting impacts on the environment and local communities, meeting the demand for purpose-driven business.

2. In my opinion, the future of the wellness industry lies in...

Jennifer: In my opinion, the future of the wellness industry lies in personalized, holistic wellness programs tailored to individual health profiles, while promoting sustainable, healthy lifestyle practices. The focus will shift toward integrative approaches that combine preventive, functional, and regenerative medicine to support long-term well-being. The industry is evolving into a more comprehensive model that addresses not only physical health but also mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness, fostering truly transformative experiences. Technology will play a pivotal role, enabling guests to continue their wellness journey with ongoing support long after they return home. The Farm at San Benito has been a pioneer in this space, leading the way for 22 years.

3. What challenges do you see ahead?

Jennifer: The wellness tourism industry faces several key challenges in the coming years. Expanding wellness offerings while supporting high-quality, personalized service is a complex task that requires a well-trained, passionate team. At The Farm at San Benito, we have made significant investments in training, continually enhancing the guest experience.

Another major challenge is upholding eco-sustainable practices amid growth. Guests increasingly expect eco-friendly operations and responsible tourism practices, which require continuous investment in sustainable infrastructure, responsible sourcing, water conservation, and efficient waste management. For 22 years, The Farm at San Benito has been at the forefront of eco-sustainability, embracing the farm-to-table and farm-to-skin concepts long before they became industry trends.

As wellness becomes more mainstream, the industry faces rising competition. To maintain credibility and set high industry standards, wellness programs must remain results-driven and genuinely effective. This requires ongoing innovation and hyper-personalization, supported by advanced diagnostics. Strategic partnerships, such as those The Farm at San Benito has formed with longevity clinic and advanced diagnostic centre, help us stay ahead of global wellness trends and uphold international standards.

Attracting and retaining skilled wellness professionals is essential, as they are the foundation of any authentic wellness experience. Wellness resorts require practitioners who are not only technically proficient but also deeply committed to holistic care, ensuring that every guest receives compassionate and meaningful service. Filipinos are renowned worldwide for their ability to deliver genuine care and warm hospitality. At The Farm, we promise a truly transformative experience, guided by the Filipino spirit of heartfelt service and nurturing care.

While The Farm at San Benito champions preventive healthcare, the broader Philippine healthcare system remains predominantly treatment focused. A stronger integration of wellness education and preventive practices within public health could significantly enhance the country’s approach to holistic healing.

4. My favourite personal wellness routines include...

Jennifer: Detoxification is a key part of my wellness routine, and at The Farm, we have refined detox practices over 22 years. This process offers a comprehensive system reset, involving advanced diagnostics, colon cleansing, nutrient-rich spa treatments inspired by Filipino healing traditions, plant-based living foods, evidence-based, and results driven medically supervised therapies, personalized nutrition, psycho-emotional clearing, and much more.

Each day, I incorporate 15 ml of virgin coconut oil into my wellness regimen. Produced onsite from our 3,000 coconut trees, this oil is renowned for its health benefits and is often considered the healthiest oil in the world. I also use it in my skincare routine, enjoying its natural nourishing effects.

5. The best advice I can offer the next generation of wellness professionals is …

Jennifer: The best advice I can offer the next generation of wellness tourism professionals is to stay passionate, and purpose-driven, always prioritizing genuine care for guests, respect for the natural environment, and meaningful involvement with the local community. When communities thrive alongside wellness tourism, the entire experience becomes more enriching for everyone involved.

Embrace lifelong learning, as wellness is a dynamic field that evolves with advancements in science and shifts in global health needs. Cultivate true empathy, as a holistic approach that cares for guests’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being creates the deepest impact.  Above all, remember that a commitment to eco-sustainable practices is also what make the wellness journey genuinely transformative.   This mindset will enrich your own personal journey as much as it enhances the lives of those you serve, the planet, and the community.
