This December, The Grand, York will launch their luxurious new spa – SubRosa. Following a £2.5 million refurbishment, and 6-month spa closure since May, SubRosa will soon open its doors to overnight and day guests of The Grand, offering a new unique and elevated wellness offering in the heart of York.
SubRosa will offer an innovative new wellness philosophy to meet the evolving expectations of the modern traveller. A Latin name meaning “under the rose” the concept is steeped in ancient Roman meanings related to secrecy, nurture and care.
The Grand will offer three new rituals to choose from – Rosa, Alba and Radix - to allow guests to re-emerge feeling renewed and revitalised, no matter the time of day.
1) Rosa – a full day experience where wellness meets elegance, and an invitation to escape the everyday. This includes a 60-minute treatment, full day access, and a Rasul ritual for two.
2) Alba – a half day spa experience for those who want to pause and re-charge. This includes a 50-minute treatment, half day spa access and lunch in the SubRosa restaurant.
3) Radix - an evening experience for those who want to reset for the next day including evening spa access, dinner in the SubRosa restaurant, and a glass of Champagne.
SubRosa will offer a selection of immersive treatments, inspired by ancient and contemporary rituals from around the world. This includes Mud Rasul, a cleansing journey combining mineral rich muds, steam and heat to relieve muscle tension, a Hammam, a ritual that purifies, relaxes, and calms the entire body, and lastly an Immersive Sunlight Experience, to elevate mood and energy.
Yorkshire spa designers Curveline have incorporated leading spa facilities including a brand-new Tirol hot sauna, Himalayan salt sauna, herbal steam room, herbal steam room, herbal lounge, a state-of-the-art large hydrotherapy pool, foot spas, relaxation rooms and more.
The extensive refurbishment has also uniquely launched a new restaurant with delicious dishes inspired by Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai and Korean cuisine. Guests can choose from a mixture of delicious sharing small plates and large plates. This new restaurant joins The Grand’s elevated food offering and is part of the hotel’s continued investment to be a leading name within hospitality and dining. Inspired by East Asian wellness-led cuisine, SubRosa joins their state-of-the-art Cookery School, fine dining restaurant Legacy, and relaxed brasserie-meets-bistro The Rise.
SubRosa’s opening comes one year after the appointment of Emma Sorby, Spa Director of The Grand, who has led the evolution and vision of SubRosa from joining in November 2024: “SubRosa is our solution to prioritising our guest’s wellness needs through a thoughtfully designed, aesthetic spa, leading facilities and comprehensive experiences, alongside honouring the unique and historic legacy of The Grand. We were inspired by The Grand’s architecture, ancient spa rituals and York’s symbolism in the development of SubRosa’s concept, which has been an exciting journey to help our guests feel connected to themselves and to history.”
SubRosa will open in December with pre-bookings available from the 23rd of September for treatments, packages and dining at SubRosa restaurant.
