Luxury wellness destination Riverhills Health Club & Spa is celebrating a landmark first year since reopening in May 2025, following the devastating fire that destroyed much of the property in 2023.
Following a £6 million redevelopment, the Suffolk-based spa and health club has undergone a complete transformation, introducing new wellness facilities, upgraded fitness spaces and a refreshed guest experience centred around personalised wellbeing.
Over the past twelve months, Riverhills has reported significant growth across memberships, spa visits and treatments, while also securing national recognition with a Spa Team of the Year win at the 2026 Professional Beauty Awards.
The reopening also marked an important moment for the local community. Among the first guests invited to experience the rebuilt spa were the 10 firefighters who helped tackle the original blaze in 2023.
A community-led mural project, titled Resurgam, brought together members, staff and local residents to contribute to a large-scale artwork symbolising renewal and resilience.
Since reopening, Riverhills has:
• Increased membership by 1,000, reaching full capacity with a waiting list of more than 100 people
• Delivered 8,226 spa treatments
• Hosted 3,963 spa day experiences
• Raised funds for local charities including the RSPCA and Thomas Wolsey Ormiston Academy
• Partnered with Suffolk New College to support newly qualified beauty therapists entering the industry
The redevelopment introduced a new suite of wellness facilities including a 16-metre swimming pool, vitality pool, aroma steam room, volcanic sauna, HaloSauna™, SnowSky snow shower, sensory spa garden and nine treatment rooms.
Managing Director Dave Courteen said: “Riverhills has always been about people, place and purpose. Over the past year, we’ve focused on creating something that our members, guests and wider community can genuinely feel part of — a destination for wellbeing, connection and everyday escape.
“We’re incredibly proud of what the team has achieved, and excited about how Riverhills continues to evolve as we invest further in the guest experience.”
Innovation remains central to the spa’s ongoing development. Its “Book Time, Not Treatments” approach has helped reshape the guest journey around flexibility and personal wellbeing, while a new concept launching later this year, How Do You Feel Today? treatments, will tailor therapies to guests’ needs on the day of their visit.
The milestone year reflects a wider trend within the wellness sector towards more personalised, experience-led spa offerings, with Riverhills positioning itself as both a community destination and modern wellness retreat.
