Mosaic Invests in GLP-1 Training as Weight-Loss Drug Use Soars

Mosaic Spa & Health Clubs has announced a major investment in specialist GLP-1 training for its fitness teams across the UK, ensuring members using weight-loss medications such as Wegovy and Mounjaro receive safe, effective and evidence-based exercise support.

The health club group, which includes Ipswich’s Riverhills Health Club & Spa and Hereford’s Holmer Park Health Club & Spa, is rolling out dedicated training for all gym floor staff to improve understanding of how GLP-1 medications affect the body and how exercise programmes can be adapted to support individual health and wellbeing goals.

The move comes as the use of GLP-1 medications continues to increase across the UK. Recent research estimates that around 1.6 million adults across England, Wales and Scotland used weight-loss medications such as Wegovy and Mounjaro between early 2024 and early 2025*, with demand for weight-management treatments continuing to grow.

Dan Fewings, Operations Director at Mosaic Spa & Health Clubs, said: “As more people begin using GLP-1 medications as part of their weight management journey, it's important that fitness professionals understand how these treatments can affect the body particularly in relation to muscle mass, body composition and skin tone. Without the right support, rapid weight loss can sometimes lead to a reduction in lean muscle and a loss of firmness, which is why targeted strength training and tailored programming are so important.

By investing in specialist training for the health club teams, we can ensure Mosaic members receive safe, informed and personalised support that helps preserve muscle, improve tone and support overall skin and body confidence throughout their journey. Our goal is to help clients not only achieve weight loss, but to maintain strength, shape and long-term results in a healthy and sustainable way. We want everyone who walks through our doors to feel confident that they are receiving advice and programmes that reflect the latest understanding of health, fitness and wellbeing.”

As more people combine medical interventions with lifestyle changes, Mosaic Spa & Health Clubs believes fitness professionals have an increasingly important role to play in providing informed support around movement, strength, recovery and sustainable behaviour change.

Developed by leading fitness education provider Future Fit, the GLP-1 training programme provides fitness professionals with practical knowledge on the role of GLP-1 in health, how the medications work, and how to apply this understanding in real-world client scenarios. Staff complete assessments throughout the course, achieving a minimum 70% pass rate before certification.

The course is delivered across three modules:

•    Understanding GLP-1 and its role in health
•    How GLP-1 medications work
•    Real-life application and case studies

The training covers key considerations for fitness professionals, including changes in appetite and metabolism, energy availability, muscle retention and the importance of appropriately adapted exercise programmes.

With growing recognition of the relationship between healthcare and physical activity, Mosaic Spa & Health Clubs is committed to ensuring its teams are prepared to support members through evolving health journeys and provide a welcoming environment where people can exercise with confidence.
