Belgin Askoy, founder of GWD
Global Wellness Day (GWD) 2024, celebrated this past weekend, reached new heights with approximately 1 billion participants worldwide. Founded in 2012 by Belgin Aksoy, the annual event aims to inspire people globally to prioritise health and wellbeing, highlighting the vital connection between humanity, wellness, and nature.
This year, GWD marked its 13th anniversary, and it was celebrated in over 170 countries, making it the most successful year to date. Since its creation, GWD has grown from a local event to a global movement with leading international hospitality and spa operators including the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Oberoi, Jumeirah and Accor, actively participating in this year’s festivities. They hosted various wellness activities such as sound baths, sunset yoga, honey tastings, flash mob dances, and group fitness classes, all designed to engage both guests and staff.
Every GWD event adheres to three core principles: it must be educational, non-commercial, and free of charge. This ensures that the day's activities are accessible to everyone, promoting a wide-reaching impact on global wellness.
The theme for GWD 2024 was #MagentaNature and emphasised the importance of reconnecting with nature to enhance overall wellbeing. With the support of over 150 GWD ambassadors, key supporters, and volunteers, people of all ages were encouraged to embrace a lifestyle that harmonises with the environment.
GWD continues to expand its influence, uniting people from diverse backgrounds in a shared mission to enhance global wellness and promote a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
