Excalibur Group acquires Spabreaks.com

Excalibur Group acquires Spabreaks.com

E-commerce business Excalibur Group has announced the strategic acquisition of Spabreaks.com, the UK’s leading spa experience platform.

Excalibur Group is a diversified holding company with a portfolio of leading consumer brands including Wowcher, LivingSocial and 5pm. Excalibur Group will complement its innovative deal platforms with Spabreaks.com’s established expertise in curating high-end, luxury spa experiences, to enhance its existing portfolio and expand its presence in the wellness and leisure sectors.

The acquisition marks an exciting step forward in Spabreaks.com’s growth journey. Founded in 2007, Spabreaks.com works with more than 560 spas in the UK and Northern Ireland, arranging spa days and breaks for over 6,000 people to every week. The Spabreaks.com website sees more than a million unique visitors each month.

The Spabreaks.com brand will continue to operate independently, with the website and marketing remaining unchanged and the business operating as usual. The management and wider team will remain with the business and are fully committed to maintaining the values and ethos that have become synonymous with the brand over the last two decades.

“It's been a fantastic 18-year journey for the Spabreaks.com brand and for me personally, as we’ve gone from a start-up to becoming a household name,” says Abi Selby, founder of Spabreaks.com and Chair of the UK Spa Association. “We are all excited for this new chapter. Excalibur Group and its well-known brands will bring huge tech expertise, an extensive database of consumer clients and unrivalled Martech experience to the Spabreaks.com family. Excalibur Group’s expertise will help us build on our success to date and accelerate growth whilst very much continuing to stay true to the legacy of the brand and its founding mission statement – championing the spa and wellness industry, and making spas more accessible to all. This has always been and remains, a core part of our identity.

“Excalibur Group’s knowledge of AI and how it’s changing both the e-commerce landscape and consumer behaviour will be invaluable to our future growth and success,” continues Selby. “We are confident this new chapter will unlock significant opportunities for our brand and our spa partners, helping us to take Spabreaks.com from strength to strength.”

George Oborne, CEO at the Excalibur Group, adds: “We’re delighted to announce the acquisition of Spabreaks.com by the Excalibur Group. Spabreaks.com has demonstrated impressive growth in recent years and this partnership represents an important step in strengthening our presence in the spa and wider services sector. Spabreaks.com will continue to operate independently, ensuring it remains the market leader in spa discovery while benefiting from the additional support and investment we can provide.”

The acquisition is expected to create significant synergies, leveraging Excalibur Group's operational expertise and marketing resources to support Spabreaks.com’s continued expansion. The brand will continue to operate under the Spabreaks.com name and the existing management team will remain in place to ensure a seamless transition and continued business momentum. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
