Cheyne Capital Extends Partnership with Champneys to Support Refurbishment and Growth

Cheyne Capital, the global alternative investment manager, has extended its long-term partnership with Champneys, through a new funding agreement that will support the company’s next phase of investment and expansion.

Building on a relationship established in 2022, Cheyne’s latest commitment includes a £32 million capital expenditure facility to refurbish and upgrade all bedrooms and public areas across Champneys’ portfolio of four spa resorts and two spa hotels. The funding will also enable further enhancements to spa and wellness facilities, food and beverage concepts, and landscaping, ensuring that the brand’s historic properties are maintained to the highest standards of luxury and sustainability.

The investment will also accelerate Champneys’ sustainability initiatives, with a focus on energy-efficient systems, waste reduction and environmental stewardship across its estates.

As part of this next phase of growth, Champneys is building on its operational success through domestic and international expansion, including a Management Contract & Franchising model exemplified by the recent opening at the Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club in Spain, and soon to be announced UK based Operations.

Theo Hajoglou, Director, Cheyne Capital, commented:

“Our extended partnership with Champneys underscores our conviction in the strength of the business, its management team, and the enduring appeal of the wellness sector. This latest investment will enable the company to accelerate its growth strategy, enhance its estate and continue setting the standard for premium health and wellbeing experiences.”

Alan Whiteley, Chief Executive Officer of Champneys, added:

“We’re delighted to deepen our partnership with Cheyne Capital in what is an important next chapter for Champneys. This renewed investment allows us to build on the legacy of Dorothy Purdew OBE and her son Stephen Purdew and continue modernising our resorts, investing in our people, and improving every guest experience while staying true to our heritage. With Cheyne’s long-term support, we can protect our historic properties, strengthen our brand, and expand responsibly — ensuring Champneys continues to set the benchmark for British wellness for the next 100 years.”
