Irish Spa unveils Quartz Room

Irish Spa unveils Quartz Room

Galgorm Resort & Spa in Northern Ireland will open a new Quartz Treatment room this month, created to house Gharieni’s new quartz bed and offer the accompanying quartz sand therapy treatment.

The MLX Quartz treatment table uses a base of alpha-quartz sand, which is warmed to 107 degrees. Derived from the ancient Greek concept of psammotherapy (hot sand therapy), MLX Quartz aims to improve circulation and stimulate the lymphatic and immune systems.

Quartz massages date back to the 1980s when Rita Blum, on holiday on the Italian island of Ischia, took a ‘sand bath’. Afterwards she claimed she felt ‘newborn’, so she and her husband decided to introduce sand therapy to Germany. The couple established The Gharieni Group and created the multifunctional MLX Quartz, which Galgorm Resort & Spa exclusively launches to Ireland later this month.

The treatment bed used alpha sand, ethically sourced from Bavaria in Germany, which envelopes the contours of the body, helping to detoxify and promote a deeper state of relaxation. The sand warms the body uniformly, helping relieve musculoskeletal and arthritic pain.

Two new treatments will be on offer. The 90-minute Quartz Serenity Signature Ritual includes a hot quartz poultice massage during which the quartz bed will be titled to increase circulation and the 60-minute Maine Quartz Back Therapy focuses on the upper body, beginning within singing bowl meditation to induce a deeper state of relaxation.

The Quartz Room opens as part of a £1 million development currently underway in the Galgorm Spa, due for completion July 2017. The redevelopment includes new Spa Gardens, a Halo Dome and additional features in the Thermal Village.
